1996 ford contour?

Does this 2.0 engine have the 4 spd trans with a torq lock up for o/d? Goes into overdrive as normal, stepping on gas merging into trafic. it will then downshift on expressway randomly. Sticks there at times and the o/d off light begins to flash. Never reengages unless i feather the gas before the light begins to flash. When it begins to flash i can;t get it back in. I punch it a bit then let off to try and get to go back in, but it don't. Anyone have this issue? Can that light flashing mean other things?
